Thank you to everyone who came out to see us at the Strathern Art Walk this past weekend. It was a chilly weekend, but you all warmed our hearts with your support and compliments. We were especially endeared to meet so many LRT fans who were excited about our train patches.

For those who missed the new drops at Strathearn Art Walk, see below! Robin finished off a massive 8" x 8" full coverage embroidered piece, "Flood at Connors Rd", memoralizing Edmonton's extreme summer storm season. We also finished off the pair of robots we promised in our last blog post!

Hello world! We're not dead, we swear!!!
To make a long story short, we suffered a major software issue that made our go-to embroidery software no longer an option. It required us to pull out of the Edmonton Holiday Geeky Gift Market, plus having to solve the whole issue of finding and learning a new replacement software to be able to turn our designs into code that our embroidery machine can understand and make patches with.
The good news is we are up and running and making more patches than ever! Robin has been indulging their passion for trains by running off several new designs based on Edmonton Transit System's current livery. We now have a patch for each LRT train currently in operation, and there may be some more Edmonton train stuff coming in the future...

With our new software* being so much more accessible than the previous one, even Cody has started to get in on the action. He has designed several of his own patches inspired by anime and Japanese movies, and they offer a new style of graphic design to the Cosmically Unlucky line-up. His latest anime eyes patch also marks the first time in Cosmically Unlucky history that we have used variagated thread in a design! It's very neat to see all the different colour combinations that come out by random chance, and the thread pops from across the room!

At the time of writing, we have 8 new patches made just in the last few months. Pretty sure this is the most we've put out in a single year, and we're not slowing down yet! We also promise we haven't forgotten about those robots we teased in the last blog post, either...

As is now tradition, we will be at the Strathearn Art Walk this year from September 12-13. We're almost in the same spot we were last year, in the blue section towards the Western entrance of the park close to 91 St. We have outgrown our beloved corkboards due to the sheer volume of work we've been making this summer, and will be showing up with a completely new booth layout. Come say hi!

* If you were curious, our new software is Inkscape with the Inkstitch extension. It's a free and open-source software, and while admittedly it has its fair share of bugs (as is somewhat expected with FOSS), it is refreshingly predictable in its output. It's so accessible that I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning machine embroidery!

Hello world! We have been hard at work over here at Cosmically Unlucky in the last two months (how is it already almost October?!).
We spent most of August cranking out patches for Strathearn Art Walk, which ended up being a smashing success! This was our third year at SAW, but our first year vending for the entire weekend. A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to check out our booth! This was the first year we offered apparel upcycled with our patches, and we were very flattered by the overwhelmingly positive response :)

After recovering from SAW, Robin went back into work revising our website's backend. This has made it easier for us to add and edit pages, which will encourage us to post more frequent updates to the website. If the website doesn't look right, you may need to clear your cookies & cache to experience the new site layout as intended.
Finally, our next upcoming show is the Edmonton Holiday Geeky Gift Market, taking place at the Edmonton Expo Centre from November 21-23, 2025. Here's a sneak peek of what Robin is working on for the show:

The pink robot was originally designed and stitched out by Robin way back in 2020, but it never became an official Cosmically Unlucky design. Robin has been thinking about polishing this Haro-inspired design off for a while, and what better time to do it than the Geeky Gift Market? Robin also sketched out some other robot friends to give the original one some company!
